Dr. Daphne Mah, Director of the Asian Energy Studies Centre (AESC) at Hong Kong Baptist University, together with PhD students Mr Wai-hei Siu and Ms. Aijia Wang, visited the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion (GIEC), Chinese Academy of Sciences, for an academic exchange.
During the meeting, Dr. Mah shared the research team’s latest progress on Smart Energy Communities, followed by academic presentations from PhD students Mr. Siu and Ms. Wang, who each introduced their ongoing research findings.
The research team from the Centre for Energy Strategy and Carbon Asset Research at GIEC presented a systematic overview of the centre’s main research directions and key achievements.

Dr. Cuiping Liao – Energy Economics and Policy, Energy Transition Strategy
Dr. Yuping Huang – Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) Interaction, V2G Resource Utilization, Smart Carbon Reduction Decision-making for Integrated Energy Systems
Dr. Wenjun Wang – Carbon Emission Trading System
Dr. Xiaoling Qi – National and Guangdong Carbon Market Research
Dr. Ying Huang – Urban Low-carbon Development Pathways
Dr. Beibei Cheng – Regional Energy Transitions and Low-carbon Community Studies
Dr. Pengcheng Xie – List Compilation of Regional Greenhouse Gas Inventories
Dr. Hanyi Lin – Maritime Wind Power and Hydrogen Energy Supply and Demand
Both parties held in-depth discussions on potential future collaborations and reached a preliminary consensus on areas of cooperation. The meeting concluded with mutual agreement to explore joint research projects, co-authored academic publications, and research personnel exchanges as part of the long-term collaboration mechanism.
