Smart Energy Hubs:
Sparking Low-Carbon Ideas Across Communities
Smart Energy Hubs is an initiative led by the Department of Geography and the Asian Energy Studies Centre at Hong Kong Baptist University, in collaboration with the Asian Low-carbon Universities-Cities Network (ALUN).

As of May 2025, we have proudly set up nine Smart Energy Hubs across Asia and in the UK -including six in Hong Kong; one each in Shenzhen, Seoul and Bristol). Some of our hubs are.
Fung Kai No.1 Primary School
Hong Chi Morninglight School

South Horizons Women's Association
Christian and Missionary Alliance Wong Chun Fai Social Centre
Hong Kong
BU SEE × Biosphere 3 Meisha Smart Energy Community Research Base
Shenzhen
Seoul
Seongmisan School

Bristol
From hands-on workshops and interactive games to policy chats and action plan co-creation, our hubs are all about turning ideas into impact. Through partnership between HKBU and local community collaborators, our smart energy hubs have formed a global networks of physical (mostly co-hosted by our local partners e.g. schools and women’s associations) and virtual spaces (through e.g. e-portal, social media, and e-networks) to promote and support low-carbon energy initiatives in communities in many different ways.

Whether it is helping households try new habits, encouraging community innovation, or nudging cities toward smarter energy choices, we are building momentum—one conversation (and one carbon-saving tip) at a time.
